With no sign of the orange invader scribbs attempted to make sense of his surroundings. The strange feeling of DeJaVu had spread and settled with a heavy suffocating thud on his chest. 'This is not a time to panic' he told himself as he searched his memory, desperate for anything that looked like a possible explanation.
An upward soaring of Blackbirds disturbed his thoughts; He watched them as they flew in panicked formation back in the direction of the lake.
As they disappeared over the treetops he thought that whatever had knocked him over could possibly have made them fly. Did he follow or not? Something inside forced his feet forwards willing him to take the same direction, he began to stride across the grass towards the pavement and retraced his steps down the walkway.
The sunlight cast long tree shadows across the field as the mid afternoon sun changed guard with its dusky late afternoon companion.
Scribbs cautiously approached the tree-lined trail, breathing steadily he followed his feet, which appeared to be taking control as far as direction was concerned.
The bushes and trees splayed out before him like the hand of a giant beckoning him into the path. He followed his almost eager feet reluctantly.
As he approached the first bend of the path midway between the field and the first opening they had started at earlier that day his gut squealed and twisted as his brain yelled GO BACK! His feet ignored the vicious command and carried on as though being controlled by some other force.
His heart pounded against his chest threatening to escape as he strained to hear any sign of movement. Edging slowly around the corner his eyes played tricks on him as every leaf, dark tree bark and pine cone seemed to sprout eyes, move or lunge towards him. The pressing in his chest became heavier and harder like the giant tree hand was crunching him up like paper.
Just when the sound of his breath and the rushing of blood in his ears and face became deafening, his whole body shuddered in a shattering sigh of relief. There around the corner was Baines, she too was walking towards the lake looking from left to right every now and again. 'This had obviously been some kind of trick hadn't it?' thought Scribbs suppressing a relieved giggle as he walked towards her.
Scribbs picked up the pace to catch her up. Hearing his approach Baines turned round. 'She’s seen me' he thought.
Something was not quite right though. She was almost looking through him. As Scribbs got closer he noticed that something wasn't right. She didn't smile in recognition, in fact it was the opposite, she snarled in recognition and stepped purposefully towards him looking at him more like a tasty morsel to eat than a housemate.
His feet stopped, rooting him to the ground. 'Typical he thought,' they seemed to be doing the opposite of whatever he asked them to do constantly today.
Scribbs stared at Baines' face, something definitely was not right here. She snarled again revealing a perfect set of razor sharp teeth. 'What the hell? Not good!' he thought as he starred in horror at the scene unfolding before him.
In a lightening flash of orange light she jumped towards him, paws appeared where her hands should have been, her frame seemed to explode almost gracefully from girl to animal as the arch of her jump completed, landing two large paws on his chest and knocking him to the ground for a second time.
Scribbs hit the mulch with a thud. 'Oh no that's the coat ruined,' he thought as he prepared to face the large reddy brown animals' gleaming white incisors that were closing in fast.
Streaming, stark white light came next followed by the sound of someone stumbling through the undergrowth in a consistent pattern of running and falling. The noise got quieter and quieter until it disappeared into the noise of the woods, deep in his sub consciousness scribble waited.
